At the first Comenius meting, all participants agreed to do a common task. They read and evaluated a national newspaper in the week from January 7 to January 12 2013. The students of OA Pribram chose the daily newspaer MFDNES and the students from the second class, who are involved into the project carefully read the front pages and the results of their effort are presented bellow:
Monday:
Title: Zeman leads, Fischer
looses, three candidates wait for a mistake
Monday articles were devoted to the president
election. Mladá fronta presented preliminary success percentage of every
candidate. It was obvious that Miloš Zeman is the leader and on the contrary Ms
Fischer gained the lowest score. It is interesting that although Mr. Franz was
marked by the public as not representative enough, he is still on the third
position!
Summary: 90% of the front-page were devoted to
the election. Preliminary success percentage was published on the first page.
The strongest candidate triplet was Zeman, Fischer and Franz.
The remaining 10% of the front-page were devoted
to the end of NHL closure and return of contemporary support of Czech players
in our extra league to the USA.
Tuesday:
Title: Jiřina Jirásková. A
lady till her last moment
The front page on Tuesday was about one of our
best actresses Jiřina Jirásková (17 February 1931 – 7 January 2013). It
was a summary about the details of her death and about her life in the past.
Her tragic passing hit the whole country. Everybody commemorated her roles in
numerous films. Generally, people agree that her passing was actually a rescue
for her. A few days before her death, she declared, that she had not had any
power to live. We think that everybody, who has seen her at least in one film
or a theatre play, must have loved her. Her death affected many people, even
celebrities like Lucie Bílá, Jiřina Bohdalová etc.
Summary: 80% of the front-page
were devoted to the death of Jiřina Jirásková.
The remaining 20% of the
front-page were devoted to the following topics: New Scoda Octavia costs 335
thousands. It has never been cheaper.
Next: Klaus disappears from
schools because of the amnesty. It is meant, of course, the picture of the
president.
Wednesday:
Title: Candidates criticise
each other: Who pays for you?
The main focus on Wednesday gained again the
election for president. For the first time all candidates met at a discussion
with Mlada fronta. They were criticising each other for different reasons. The
main issue was their money for the campaign. Zeman paid the least in comparison
with others and the other candidates considered it strange. During the
discussion every candidate mentioned something interesting. For example
Dienstbier claimed that he would never amnesty Rath.
Summary: 80% of the front-page were devoted to
president candidates and financing of their promotion actions and programmes.
The remaining 20% of the front-page were devoted
to the following topics: The insurance will not have Czech owners.
Kellner sold it to Italians. The article describes that 49% of the Czech
insurance was sold by Petr Kernel to an Italian company Generali PPF Holding.
Next title: Pubs without cigarettes and with
soda. Minister Heger wants to push the non smoking policy in pubs. The restriction
should refer to alcohol as well.
Thursday:
Title: Stroke caused by
contraception pill?
For many years, doctors talk about negative
effects of contraception. Neurologist Jiří Neumann proved that regular use of
pills can lead to death caused by stroke. There is an evidence that a few girls
died in this way, one of them was Martina Laratová, who had been using the pill
for only three months and who suffered from coagulation disease. Because of the
fact, that proper coagulation testing is expensive, gynaecologists do not do
this test and as a result the disease cannot be identified early. Speculations
about this issue spread quickly all over the world.
Summary: 50% of the front-page were devoted to
warning about the use of hormonal contraception. Czech doctors have talked
about this danger for more than four years. Hormonal pill can cause stroke,
especially at young girls. After the attack of stroke, paralysis can occur or
in extreme case the patient can die. In France many criminal charges appeared
reacting to this scandal.
The remaining 50% of the front-page were devoted
to the following topics: Where is the sun? People sleep badly because of the
dull weather.
Next: Zeman´s (un)clear bill
Next title: For ski-pass lending, skiers will be
included into a black list.
Friday:
Title: Who will be entrusted
with Prague´s castle
Friday was devoted to the historically first
direct election for president in the Czech Republic. The election will start on
Friday at 2 o´clock in the afternoon and finish on Saturday at 2 o´clock in the

For a long time, everybody was curious and
wanted to know who will become the new president. All of the nine candidates
met at a common photography action, although there is a lot of rivalry among
them, they were laughing and in a good mood. President Václav Klaus was not in
favour of the direct election and he was quite secretive about his favourite.
The names of two candidates getting into the second level will be known on
Saturday.
Summary: 95 % of the front-page were devoted to
the opening of direct vote for the president starting at 14. Next discussed
issue was the favourite of Václav Klaus.
The remaining 5% of the front-page were devoted
to the title: From Prague to Ostrava by train for 300 CZK. Prices are falling

the candidates in case of victory or loss..
